Ibanez Guitar: Final Render

Ibanez Guitar: Final RenderWith the frenetic pace at work finally winding down, I finally was able to get back into Maya and finish the guitar. The renders are using Mental Ray's default shaders with no textures. While experimenting with Depth of Field and Anti-Alias parameters, my quad-core system decided to have a heart attack and power down. Not sure the cause, but this happened twice while rendering the close up view until I was able to get a complete render. Oddly enough, render times were just over a minute for 1280x720 resolution. (One of these days, I will find the time to properly learn lighting and rendering.)

I have updated my portfolio in the web section to include some of my recent work over the past few years. I still have quite a bit more projects to dig out and add. Hopefully, those will be up later this month.

Ibanez Guitar: Tremolo System Complete
Written by Administrator

Ibanez Guitar: Tremolo System CompleteI've managed complete the tremolo system. I could further refine, but I think getting so much detail into such a little area would be a bit excessive. The only other area to model is the head stock and tuners. However, I'm not sure if I will do that for the composition I want. So, I believe all the initial modeling is complete.

The next step is to apply a smooth around all the pieces that need it, then start on a clay render. After that, it's a matter of applying textures to create the final render.

Back to 3D modeling: Ibanez Guitar

Ibanez Guitar - Wireframe - roughIt's been awhile since I've updated this site and what better way to do it with some new material. For the past few weekends working a few hours a day, I've finally dusted off my Maya skills after a long hiatus and took a stab at modeling an Ibanez Guitar. I've only 1 image plane and a few reference shots of the tremolo system. While this is not yet complete, I believe I'm nearly there. What's left to do is, finish out the tremolo system and then work on the head stock. Once that's done, then it's a a stab at texturing and rendering. I'll most likely keep it simple for the texturing. This model has had some challenges. The cut-away sections were tricky as the geometry needed to be re-flowed along the guitar. And ofcourse the tremolo system is a bit of a challenge.

Links to Images and Video Updated
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 02 March 2008 11:41

I've gone through all the articles and updated the links to the videos and images. When redirecting the site's parent folder, the server wouldn't recognize anything above the new location. So, everything now should be working.

I also fixed the JavaScript error in IE by updating the what the script was looking for. It was trying to find the a misnamed ID. So, all that is well now.

The only other issue that happens is that when the site loads, sometimes it will only load as if there are 2 columns. It's kind of annoying when it's supposed to be only one. Maybe it's an issue with the template. Not sure. Refreshing the page will correctly display the contents.

New Site Design

I've decided to release the new design of the site even though there are still some things left to do. I'm happy with the way it turned out. However, there are still some things I haven't quite figured out with the template I'm using. I'll still stick with this current template until I find a better one.

I did run into a float problem with IE6 with the ads. The fix was to set a float on the module containing the ads. This worked for all the pages but the home page. The articles there were not clearing the float properly and I had to "publish" the page title to correct it.

Tomorrow, I will try to extinguish some of the other IE6 problems. Also, I will begin looking into building out the music section of the site.

Site Re-Design Nearing Launch

I've finally added all the the photography from Japan and the graphics from my old site into this site. The new gallery is much easier and faster than the original JavaScript I was using on the old design.

Only two sections are left to do: Music and Video. Still not sure about the video section, whether it can be ported into the gallery or maybe I'll just keep it a simple article page. As for the music section, I'll look for some type of Flash MP3 player to play the songs.

Lastly, it's only a matter of time before I replace the old site with this new one. I hope to have this site up within a week. Though, I may still change out the template as I'm finding out some limitations with the initial one I'm using. So far, it's working out like a champ, but there is no place for right modules. Which makes it's somewhat limited of what content can go where.

The new site which will include a new back-end and front end will be launched soon. Currently, I'm converting the data from the Movable Type platform to the Joomla platform. After all data has been transferred, then the design will be implemented. The goal is to launch in September.
