With the frenetic pace at work finally winding down, I finally was able to get back into Maya and finish the guitar. The renders are using Mental Ray's default shaders with no textures. While experimenting with Depth of Field and Anti-Alias parameters, my quad-core system decided to have a heart attack and power down. Not sure the cause, but this happened twice while rendering the close up view until I was able to get a complete render. Oddly enough, render times were just over a minute for 1280x720 resolution. (One of these days, I will find the time to properly learn lighting and rendering.) |

I've managed complete the tremolo system. I could further refine, but I think getting so much detail into such a little area would be a bit excessive. The only other area to model is the head stock and tuners. However, I'm not sure if I will do that for the composition I want. So, I believe all the initial modeling is complete.
The next step is to apply a smooth around all the pieces that need it, then start on a clay render. After that, it's a matter of applying textures to create the final render. |

It's been awhile since I've updated this site and what better way to do it with some new material. For the past few weekends working a few hours a day, I've finally dusted off my Maya skills after a long hiatus and took a stab at modeling an Ibanez Guitar. I've only 1 image plane and a few reference shots of the tremolo system. While this is not yet complete, I believe I'm nearly there. What's left to do is, finish out the tremolo system and then work on the head stock. Once that's done, then it's a a stab at texturing and rendering. I'll most likely keep it simple for the texturing. This model has had some challenges. The cut-away sections were tricky as the geometry needed to be re-flowed along the guitar. And ofcourse the tremolo system is a bit of a challenge.

I knocked out this spider in about 3 or 4 hours using Sub-Division Surfaces. I tried using the sculpt surfaces tool to help smooth some bumps out as well as to modify the body to be a little less symmetrical. I had the modelling completed about 2 days ago, but did not have any time to kick out a clay rendering until today. Three Quarter View Front Close-Up |

I worked on a pair of goofy night vision goggles in the span of 3 or 4 hours. The work flow was all NURBs. It was a very easy, and very familiar workflow. Needless to say, it was a fun and fast project with ample flexibility since it's very quick to add and modify detail. The textures are just modified Blinns and Lamberts. I decided to move forward with this project and the next before wrapping up the Murcielago. I still have to build the interior of the car. I hope by Friday to get back to it. I finally completed the exterior of the Murcielago. The next step is to build the transitional pieces and the interior. There is still quite a lot of work to do before it's complete. My goal is to try to finish this model by the end of the week. I quickly threw together a couple renders to see the progress and to verify if there are no ding or dents in the paneling. I'm not sure which colour I will choose for the final finished model. These renders are just using basic materials without UV mapping nor any textures. I am very pleased with the way these rendered out and can only imagine how the finished model will be with proper lighting and texturing. Front Exterior Rear Exterior |

I started working on the Murcielago instead of the the night vision goggles. So far I have the curve network in place. The next step is to create all the surfaces for the car. I'm not sure how long it will take as the car's interior will also be modeled. With any luck, I hope to have the hood and door created tomorrow, if not more. Curve Network |

I started working on the first project of the Advanced Modeling class on Monday. So far the content is really good and covers everything regarding modeling. The Socom gun was done with polygons and took me about 12 hours to complete. Interesting to note is that the models will only get more complex as the course proceeds. Anyway, it feels good to have this one finished and I'm looking forward to the next project with NURBs (if I go in the order originally stated by the documention.)
