Naturally any winter wouldn't be the same without cold weather and snow. Well, here in Koriyama, there is plenty of cold and snow to go around. I come to find out that this is one of the coldest winters to hit this region in quite some time. Most of the highs are just below freezing and the ice just doesn't want to melt off the road. Some areas are much worse though. So, I suppose I should be thankful. Anyway, I'm lucky I have only a short contract to fulfill. But if I the company gives me another runaround, I will see that as a breach of contract and return to the home much sooner. I wil have to be patient over the next few days since everyone here is still on holiday. |

I suppose the effects of Delta's bankruptcy is being felt. The meals were not what was listed and the staff as a bit more curt. I've not seen nor heard what is going on with Delta, but I do know that if they were to be shut down, Atlanta would lose many jobs. Well, you still have Coke and Turner there, but Delta does provide most of the airport area a lot of business. The near 15-hour flight had only 1 redeemer: window seat. I've noticed there is just a tad more room next to the window. Unfortunately, I still did not get enough sleep. |

It was nice spending at least New Years' Eve with my folks. Though, the trip is short, it really did feel good to be home again. The weather was much warmer too and even made it to the beach for a walk. Anyway, it was a little depressing watching Dick Clark on the New Years' countdown. I never knew he had a stroke. And supposedly he's doing much better. However, it's was strange since he's always been the New Years' Eve announcer as long as I can remember. Reflecting on that and all that has happened after leaving JET makes me realise that it's nearing time to move on to something better for my life. That something better would be a stable and rewarding job, living in a nice area and trying to "settle down." So, once again, I will be sending out resumes while wrapping up my short contract. Hopefully, I can land a position sooner than later. |

The near 13 hour flight from Narita to Atlanta was not too bad. Though for some strange reason, they had to verify I was me. My name was placed on a blacklist of some sort. I think maybe it was due to the fact that my mother purchased the tickets. I'm not sure. Maybe I'll never know. Though, it was definately suprising to have been told I've been blacklisted. The food on the flight was decent, but the movies were not so. Though, I did enjoy Wallace and Gromit. The other movies I had already seen. So, I tried to get some rest, which is nearly impossible. If I were 6 inches shorter, then, and only then, it might be possible! Oh well, at least I made it home. |

We managed to head over to the Koriyama Library about an hour before they closed. It stays open until 5 p.m. on Sundays. I renewed the kanji book and picked up Tonari no Totoro manga and another Japanese textbook. I've nearly read half of the first manga since there is little Japanese in it. It's mostly pictures. The Japanese in it is very easy to understand. The textbook I picked up is suited for reading. It tells the story of a typical Japanese family. There are key points throughout the chapters on culture and grammer. Though, this book is very thin on English. Much of the English in it is primarily in the glossary. What's really good about it is it forces you to really dive into the written language. |

I picked up a Japanese textbook at Tsutaya. It's 200 Essential Japanese Expressions: A Guide to Correct Usage of Key Sentence Patterns. This book gives many examples of the sentences pattern each lesson focuses on. However, there is very little English. All the kanji has it's reading written above. The book is about 200 pages long and seems to be really good. |

The final night out with Sakuma-san was a lot of fun. I began to feel better with my Japanese since I was using it more frequently in the past couple of days. So, I had to be an interpreter for Steven that night. We grabbed dinner at Fat Bob's. It's a steakhouse in Fukushima City. The food's pretty good, but can be a little on the pricey side. After dinner we went to the hostess bar Sakuma-san likes a lot. Steven went into his own world while the hostesses came and went, while Sakuma-san was getting drunker. Like clockwork, at midnight, we head back to Koori. The night turned out to be a good time. |

There was an international cooking class held at Jo-chu. April, Steven and I had to show how to make some kind of American food for several of the teachers. April did a splendid job with the preparations while I was thrown into the class at the last minute. We had made hamburgers and mac 'n cheese. Also, we had to give a little language lesson. So, we both taught basic greetings. I did Spanish and April did French. |
